Fun in the Sun

Thursday, September 29, 2005
We were able to take some time this month and enjoy a few days at the beach. We stayed at an amazing resort on the southern coast of Turkey. We pretty much did nothing but eat great food and sit in the sun. With the exception of a few topless women we could not avoid and one rainy day, it was an incredible holiday.

      Ultrasound at 21 weeks

Although it is of the plain ole, black and white, low-tech variety, you have to admit that's a cute footprint.

      A Work in Progress

      Sunday, September 25, 2005
We have titled our new blog Smithler: A Work in Progress. Smithler is the plural of Smith in Turkish and the work in progress... well, that could take a little more explanation.

Every day we are striving to be a work in progress for Him. We hope that we are allowing the Lord to mold us and shape us into people who worship Him alone. We will never achieve the status of "finished product" on this side of Heaven, but we pray that He would continue to humble us and draw us closer to Him as we long to be the clay in the Potter's hands.

Living in a new culture is a constant learning experience. There is rarely a day that goes by that we do not learn of a new word, a new aspect about the culture, or even a new thing about ourselves. So, we consider ourselves a work in progress in this land... attempting to learn and grow and most importantly, love the people of our new culture.

Finally, our family is a work in progress in the most literal sense of the words. Baby Smith is on the way, and there will undoubtedly be some progress made in that area over the next few months and years! Prayerfully, we will always be seeking His face as we discover the joys and trials of parenting.

        Continuing the work...

"Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand." ~Isaiah 64:8
